Gregorian & Hebrew calendar, side by side

Shabbat Holiday / fast / observance Today

Hebrew dates begin at sundown the evening before the Gregorian date shown. Festival days follow Diaspora practice (second days of Yom Tov, Simchat Torah on 23 Tishri). Fasts that would fall on Shabbat are shown on their nominal date, not the postponed one.

Biblical dates on the Gregorian calendar

Where Scripture gives a calendar date, it is listed in the Hebrew month the text names. "Traditional" follows the rabbinic chronology of Seder Olam, which underlies the Hebrew year count; "Historical" follows the academic reconstruction anchored to Assyrian, Babylonian and Persian records. Day-level dates are Julian, the convention historians use for antiquity; the proleptic Gregorian equivalent is 5 to 8 days earlier in this period.
